Warbirds and Classics 2026, Irvine CA
June 5th thru 7th saw the annual Warbirds and Classics fun fly, hosted by the Scale Squadron of Southern California. Propnuts of Las Vegas was well represented at that event, with 8 members traveling to Irvine to participate in the fun. There were approx. 35-40 registered pilots and the weather was great for flying. Since The Scale Squadron is a club that likes builders, not just assemblers of models , there were many excellent and unique planes flying all weekend.
Four Propnuts members were fortunate to end up in the Winners Circle at this event:
Gianni Catanzaro got the “People's Choice Award” for his F-14 ARF and accompanying diorama.
Greg Minden won the “Best Post WW11 Warbird” for his scratch-built B-57B Canberra
Keith Hedge won “Most Unusual” for his Auster, built from Jerry Bates Plans.
Frank Kelley got the award for the “Best Multi-Engine” plane, for his big OV-10 Bronco

This was a great event as usual. Next year the Scale Squadron will be celebrating their club's 20th anniversary, and I’m sure there will again be a strong Propnuts presence to help make it something really something special. New AMA District X VP Visit
Friday Jan 16th we held a greet and meet with the new Vice President JR Schiager. All four clubs were represented, Al Badoux President of the Soaring Club, Rex Bordwell President of the Propnuts, Randy Dorn President of the Las Vegas Radio Control Flyers Club and both Reuben and Steven MacBride President of the Circle Burners.
Gil Terzo and Barry Mattison were also in attendance representing the area AMA Associate Vice Presidents. Also LVRC Flyers Vice President William Knight was there as well.
JR was very gracious to all that showed up and we all met a very nice and informative AMA District Vice President. This was one of many stops for JR as he is touring many of the District X Clubs and secondly he is on a recruitment tour for additional Associate Vice Presidents. JR stated he has a number of areas throughout District X without Associate Vice Presidents which he is taking action to correct. He assured everyone he will support all his district clubs with all our issues. Overall, we give a big shoutout and thank you to JR for spending time with us and Gil Terzo setting this greet and meet up.
